Introduction
The Ashcroft Makers 3D CSM, established in the UK February 2020, is perfect for any knitter wanting to take their knitting to the next level.
It is possible to create knitted fabrics for socks, sock tubes, yoga socks, legwarmers, hats, cowls, headbands, gloves, mittens and scarves and more, IF they have thoroughly looked into every aspect of sock making techniques required to use this machine.
Finished objects made from Ashcroft Makers Knitting Patterns CAN be re-sold, but NOT the knitting pattern itself.
----------
Knitters with lots of experience would not necessarily become instant experts in producing knits on this 3D CSM with a Dual Tension CAM System, as it requires a great deal of patience and practice.
But, with a little know-how and some creativity to tweak some of your knitting skills, you can definitely bring out the best in creating your chosen knitting projects.
Don't be deceived by it's apparent simplicity, the settings and adjustments of this machine are every bit as complicated, if not more so, than other types of CSM's.

Description
The CSM made from 3D filament, is portable and lightweight. It clamps onto any worktop, table or desk and does not take up a lot of space.
It works in a circular motion with the speed controlled by the handle, which is located at the front of the casing and can be used in a clockwise or a counter clockwise motion. This central placement of the handle benefits both right and left handed knitters.
----------
The yarn feeder is stationary and has a Dual Tension OPEN CAM system. As you turn the handle the cylinder rotates, moving the needles upwards towards the yarn feeder. This moves the needles into a working position, so the yarn hooks onto the needles and forms the stitch. The needles are held in place by a band.
The knitting gauge can be adjusted by changing the placement of the tension levers on either side of the outer casing and also by the position of the tension unit adjuster.
The CSM comes with a cast on basket, cast on bonnet, buckle and one weight. The knitter only has to thread the sock yarn using the tension unit/yarn feeder on the machine and you’re good to go!

Gauge
Two strands of yarn and the needle should fit comfortably into each slot.
Every 4 needles on the Ashcroft cylinder knit approximately to 0.25 inch
(48 divided by 4 = 12 X 0.25 inch = 3 inch diameter/6 inch sock circumference)
so cylinders with 4ply weight yarn or 4/16nm (400M/100gr) knit approximately to:
48 cylinder - 3 inch diameter / 6 inch circumference
52 cylinder - 3.25 inch diameter / 6.5 inch circumference
56 clyinder - 3.5 inch diameter / 7 inch circumference
60 cylinder - 3.75 inch diameter / 7.5 inch circumference
64 cylinder - 4 inch diameter / 8 inch circumference
68 cylinder - 4.25 diameter / 8.5 inch circumference
72 cylinder - 4.5 inch diameter / 9 inch circumference
Keep in mind that the sock will need to be slightly smaller than your actual foot/leg measurement to account for negative ease.
Negative ease is usually 1 inch for adults and 1/2 inch for children.
The foot size is determined by the number of rows of knitting between the heel and the toe.
With 4ply yarn, 55 rows of knitting should be equal to a size 6UK, 39EU, 8US
You can add/deduct 5 rows or 1cm for each shoe size.
A swatch can be help you determine the number of rows of knitting required to 1cm and also the width of your sock.
