- Ashcroft Makers 3D printed Circular Knitting machine works in a circular motion with the speed controlled by the handle, which is located at the front of the casing and can be used in a clockwise or a counter clockwise motion.
- The central placement of the handle benefits both right and left handed knitters.
- The yarn feeder is stationary and has a Dual Tension OPEN Cam System.
- As you turn the handle the cylinder rotates, moving the needles upwards towards the yarn feeder.
- This moves the needles into a working position, so the yarn hooks onto the needles and forms the stitch.
- The needles are held in place by a band.
- Knitting gauge can be adjusted by changing the placement of the tension levers on either side of the outer casing and also by the position of the tension unit adjuster.
- The knitter only has to thread the sock yarn on the machine and you’re good to go.
- The support bracket accommodates the ribber.
Measuring Your Foot for Socks
- Measure around the ball of the foot and around the calf.
- Then choose a cylinder size that is around 1 inch smaller than your actual foot/calf measurement.
- Every 4 needles on the Ashcroft cylinder knit approximately to 0.25 inch, so a 48 slot cylinder divided by 4 = 12 X 0.25 inch = 3 inch diameter or 6 inch sock circumference.
- Cylinders with 4 ply yarn or 4/16nm (400M/100gr) knit to:
- 48 cylinder - 3 inch diameter / 6 inch sock circumference
- 52 cylinder - 3.25 inch diameter / 6.5 inch sock circumference
- 56 cylinder - 3.5 inch diameter / 7 inch sock circumference
- 60 cylinder - 3.75 inch diameter / 7.5 inch sock circumference
- 64 cylinder - 4 inch diameter / 8 inch sock circumference
- 68 cylinder - 4.25 inch diameter / 8.5 inch sock circumference
- 72 cylinder - 4.5 inch diameter / 9 inch sock circumference
- The foot size is determined by the number of rows between the heel and the toe. 55 rows of knitting should be equal to size 6UK, 39EU, 8US. You can add/deduct 5 rows for each shoe size.
- Keep in mind that the sock will need to be slightly smaller than your actual foot/leg measurement to account for negative ease, usually 1 inch for adults and 1/2 inch for children.
